For most people in the western part of the world, going to South East Asia would mean going to Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. Although very close, they are not South East Asia. Same holds through with Hong Kong which almost can be considered but geo-politically since it is part of China is counted as part of East Asia. So where in South East Asia do we go? Taking away all these first world Asian countries, Singapore will then be the next in line and is part of South East Asia. But I would like to talk more of a more exotic adventure for the family that is kid friendly.
I am thinking more in the lines of:
Malaysia, a former British colony, is full of wonderful activities for kids. Other than beaches and shoreline that are awesome swimming and snorkeling site, they have world class theme parks, natural wonders and cultural highlights even your kids will definitely enjoy!
A very popular destination among American tourists, the Philippines boasts of tis awesome, family friendly shorelines, eco-parks, national heritage sites and cultural places that is not only educational but is an adventure of a lifetime for your kids. The food is a fusion of east and west which makes it easy for westerners to appreciate.
When Americans talk of Indonesia, Bali is the first thing that comes to mind. Now this is not just a backpacker’s haven. Bali’s beaches is an adventure waiting to happen. With its water sports, surfing, sailing and jetskiing. It’s reef is a good place for snorkeling and diving. In addition, Indonesia boasts of its nature walk, excellent waterparks and other family-friendly places you will surely enjoy.
Most of South East Asia boasts of their awesome beaches. But Thailand in this case, takes pride of their rivers. Let’s not talk about Bankok this time, let’s talk about Kanchanaburi wich is a very short trip outside Bangkok. The novelty factor here is the raft house where you can stay. You can also enjoy a scenic boat ride along the majestic River Kwai and cap it off with a trip to the refreshing waterfall of Erawan.
With the influx of tourists in the region, South East Asia has fast becoming a major tourist destination for the whole family. Not just for backpackers and enlisted personnel, but including the middle class types that lug around strollers and car seats. Speaking of strollers and car seats. Parents tend to struggle with the dilemma of having these cumbersome items to gate check or to bring it aboard. What to do? I always make sure that my kid’s stroller and car seat are gate checked. You’ve heard the stories, about strollers and car seats checked in along with your baggage. If it’s not damaged, it gets misplaced by the baggage handlers and your car seat gets delayed by a day or two. It is not worth the hassle! So better get a car seat travel bag.
